If you lose an animal please contact the Animal Shelter immediately, and visit the shelter with a description and photograph of your pet. You may also fax the Animal Shelter a description of your pet or fill out our online Lost Pet Report Form.
You may also do the following:
- Ask your neighbors if they have seen your pet or leave a message if they are not home.
- Ask your local veterinarians if they have received reports of animals that match your pet's description.
- Create flyers with a description and/or photograph of your lost pet, and post the flyers at local businesses and veterinary offices.
- Post a lost pet notice in your newspaper's lost and found column.
- Ask your local mail carrier if he or she has seen any stray animals that match your pet's description.
Remember: Pets who are wearing up-to-date identification tags will most likely be back home within a few hours, and microchipping and tattooing your pet can be a great deal of help if your pet is ever lost. Also, don't give up searching for your pet. Many animals are located weeks after they go missing.
If you find a stray animal, please call the Jefferson City Animal Shelter or fill out an electronic report using the Found Animal Report Form.
You may also bring the animal to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
Note: Incoming animals will be accepted from Cole County only, and proof of Cole County residency is required.
