The City of Jefferson Wastewater System serves approximately 19,000 customers in Jefferson City and the surrounding area. The following policies address new connections to the sanitary sewer.
Connection to an existing sewer
If there is already sanitary sewer on the subject property, the property owner or their representative must obtain a sewer connection permit from the Department of Community Development, 320 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. The connection permit must accompany the applicable connection fee and an inspection fee. Connection to the sanitary sewer must be performed by a licensed plumber and comply with all City Codes. There must be a separate connection for each building served. Extending a sanitary sewer
If sanitary sewer does not exist on the subject property, a sanitary sewer may be extended to serve the property in the following ways: Developer/property owner has the sewer main extended. Developer/property owner must provide construction drawings designed by a registered professional engineer in the State of Missouri subject to approval by the Engineering Division. Provided that the project meets feasibility criteria, the City may extend the sanitary sewer by an assessment per lot. (Reference Section 29-131 of the City Code). Please contact the Wastewater Division for more details at (573) 634-6410.
Connections and Extensions outside the City Limits
Any property outside the Jefferson City limit that is not part of an approved plat prior to July 14, 2004 is subject to executing a consent for annexation before connecting to the sanitary sewer.

If you have moved into a home with sewer service, contact Jefferson City Utilities at (573) 634-6328 for billing information. If you are a customer of PWS #1 or you are billed directly by the City, your bill may be paid by direct deposit.
